🕊️Standing Together for Those Who Served — and Those in Need
10th October marks two profoundly important dates — World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day.For many, these may seem like separate causes. But for countless men and women who have served in our Armed Forces, they are closely intertwined realities.
At the Regiment Support Service (RSS), we see first-hand the challenges that veterans face when transitioning from military to civilian life. The loss of structure, camaraderie, and purpose can lead to struggles with mental health — and, in the most difficult cases, homelessness.
💬 Why This Day Matters
Around 1 in 10 rough sleepers in the UK have a military background.
Mental health challenges such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety remain significant barriers to recovery and reintegration.
Behind every statistic is a person — a veteran, a parent, a friend — who once wore the uniform and served our country with pride.
Today is about more than awareness. It’s about compassion, understanding, and action.
🏠 The Homeless Soldier Project
Through our Homeless Soldier Project, we work to raise funds and awareness for veterans experiencing homelessness or hardship. Every purchase of a British flag lapel badge helps fund vital support services and charities providing shelter, counselling, and hope.
It’s proof that small actions can make a big difference.
💚 How You Can Help
Wear your support – Purchase a badge or product from regimentsupportservice.org
Start a conversation – Ask a veteran how they’re doing. Sometimes, that’s the first step toward healing.
Share this post – Spread awareness of both World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day on social media using #HomelessSoldier #MentalHealthMatters #RegimentSupportService
Together, we can continue to shine a light on these issues — and ensure that every veteran, and every person, has the support they deserve. Because no one who served their country should ever be left without a home, or hope.
